How to treat the damaged side stones of my Boxer / Lobbe / Kilo / Mats?

It is annoying when the side stones of your wood stove are damaged. However, it can happen that the side stones of your stove crack or show other signs of wear.

Possible causes include:

  • Heat: High temperatures can cause cracks or discoloration of the stones.
  • Wear: Regular heating can lead to erosion of the stones.
  • Mechanical damage: An accident can also cause damage.

Treating damaged side stones is delicate, but there are several ways to mask or repair the damage.

Tip: Always contact your dealer before taking any action.

The appropriate treatment depends on the cause and extent of the damage. Additionally, the color of the stones plays an important role.

How to treat black or anthracite side stones?

Black or anthracite stones are coated in our factory with a special finish. This coating is heat-resistant and durable but can still be damaged. You can follow these steps:

  • Contact your dealer and provide the model of your stove as well as its installation date.
  • Assess the extent of the damage with them and explore possible solutions.
  • In many cases, it is best to leave the cracks as they are. We call this the character of your stove. This ensures that you own a truly unique stove.
  • If you disagree, you may consider repainting the stones using a spray.
  • It is essential to determine the exact color of your stove – seek advice from your dealer.
  • Once the exact color is identified and you have the appropriate spray paint, you can repaint the stones. This process requires precision, so take your time.
  • In some cases, it is possible to repaint only the damaged area.
  • The shade of the varnish may not exactly match that of the stove. Therefore, wait until the paint is completely dry and the stove has been used several times.
  • If the color difference persists, consider repainting the stones entirely. This also requires precision, so take your time.

How to treat natural side stones?

For natural side stones, the situation is different. There is no coating to mask the damage. In many cases, your dealer will advise you to accept the imperfections. We call this the character of your stove. This ensures that you own a truly unique stove.

If the damage is more significant, first contact your dealer. They can advise you on the possibility of lightly sanding the damaged areas to make them less visible. Only undertake this operation on the recommendation of an expert.
